Emojis!

Related imageImage result for emojis
I gave each child four pieces of paper and had them draw four circles on each paper...as close to the same size as possible.  Then we talked about each emotion and characteristics associated with each one.  Then each child created the emoji we talked about.  Later mounted on black paper.

SELFIES

Sometimes we just want to see what they will draw.
They got to draw themselves with Sharpies and we mounted with their names printed on paper.

Snowflakes.

Terrible pictures!  The children cut snowflakes from coffee filters.
We walked them through some of the "rules" and let them create.
Such a fun process.  They loved seeing their snowflakes unfold!

Rainy Day. Blowing water color. Tracing Umbrella shape.

Some projects are prettier than others...but sometimes they just enjoy the process.  Blowing liquid water color was a fun activity for them. They worked on drawing themselves too!

Hand Print Santas falling down the chimney

This lesson was trying to create a picture out of a shape of our hand.  It was pretty challenging for someof the kids to follow the directions as it was hard for them to see how to change the shape into a Santa.  In the end, still cute and fun.

Rainbow Fish

We read the book, The Rainbow Fish.
We used a fish template and they filled in first the face and fins.  Then we had them stamp celery into the colors to make the rainbow. Afterwards they added a foil scale.

10 apples up on top

I collected toilet paper rolls and taped them with a crease to look like an apple when stamped.  We read the book Ten Apples up on Top and then we glued their pictures onto the paper strip and then stamped their apples and added stems.
They had a great time!

Little Quack! Directed Draw

After reading Little Quack's New Friend and talking about their great friendship, we learned how to draw the characters!  It is really exciting when a child can follow directions and come out with a picture they wouldn't have been able to draw independently.  They gain confidence when they see their picture does look like the characters.  We always emphasize that everyone's artwork will be different and it should be.  The unique ways children draw is so organic and beautiful.  LOVED this project!

I found some tutorials online for the characters and then taught it to the students with directed draw.
